The Settlement Music School Collection contains mostly undated and unidentified images depicting children participating in miscellaneous artistic, dramatic, and musical activities at the school. Other images represented include building exteriors and interiors and individual and group portraits. The collection also contains several 4 x 6 inch and 35mm negatives, also unidentified. A few photographs contain images of African American children.

The Settlement Music School is a private organization whose purpose is to provide music instruction for children and adults regardless of their ability to pay. The school was incorporated in 1913, and moved to its current location on Queen Street in Philadelphia in 1917. Branches in Germantown and Frankford were established in 1951.
